The Cannon Head 450mm Red Chimney Pot is an essential component for any masonry chimney stack. Properly installed, this chimney pot ensures the safe and efficient conveyance of combustion gases from your solid fuel fire into the atmosphere. Before installation, it's crucial to adhere to Approved Document J to ensure the height and positioning are correct.

Inspect the chimney pot to confirm it's undamaged and suitable for your flue system and fire type. Additionally, check your chimney stack for any cracks or defective mortar pointing, repairing as necessary. The flue lining must be clear of debris, and any mortar ingress should be cleaned to facilitate smooth passage of flue gases.

Don’t forget to install a damp proof course below the top layer of brickwork. Fill the space between the outside of the flue liner and the chimney stack with insulating material, such as weak lime mortar or lightweight vermiculite type insulating cement. Finally, ensure the chimney stack top is flat for the best performance.

• Carefully check the chimney stack for any cracks or defective mortar pointing and repair these before installation. • Ensure the flue liner is clear of debris and free of mortar ingress to allow smooth passage of flue gases. • A damp proof course must be installed below the top layer of brickwork to prevent moisture penetration. • Fill the space between the flue liner and the chimney stack with insulating material such as weak lime mortar or lightweight vermiculite type insulating cement. • Confirm that the chimney stack top is flat for optimal performance, and adhere to Approved Document J guidelines for proper installation.

No, the Cannon Head 450mm Red Chimney Pot is specifically designed for solid fuel fireplaces. Ensure it matches your specific flue system and fire type.

Approved Document J is a UK building regulation that outlines the safety requirements for combustion appliances and fuel storage systems, including the installation of flue terminals like chimney pots.

Inspecting the chimney stack and chimney pot ensures there are no damages and that the components are suitable for your specific flue system. This prevents issues such as blockages or improper ventilation, which could be hazardous.

Lightweight vermiculite type insulating cement or weak lime mortar are recommended insulating materials. These help maintain flue efficiency and safety.

A damp proof course prevents moisture from penetrating the masonry structure, which can lead to degradation and potential failure of the chimney stack over time.

Ensure the flue lining is free from debris and clear any mortar ingress. This allows for a smooth passage of flue gases and easier sweeping.

Repair any defects immediately to ensure structural integrity and safe operation of your chimney. Proper maintenance ensures effective performance and prolongs the lifespan of the chimney stack and pot.
