When installing, ensure compliance with Approved Document J for height and position specifications. Inspect the chimney pot for damages and ensure it is suitable for the flue system in use. A properly installed chimney pot helps avoid the pitfalls of terminating your chimney with just a mortar flaunching.
Additionally, inspect the chimney stack for any cracks and repair defective mortar pointing. The flue lining should be sound and clear of debris, with any mortar ingress wiped clean to facilitate smooth passage for flue gases and sweeping. An insulating material should fill the space between the flue liner and chimney stack, while a damp proof course should be installed below the top layer of brickwork to maintain structural integrity.
